yellow planes

SAS inspiration

we’ve been  playing with the idea of making paper-planes out of Yellow Pages. In one catalogue only, there’s a ranging numbers of planes. In our local version we’ve about 800 Planes. So let’s start folding, so we can have a paper-plane-party.

[yellow collection] & jan guillou

there’s been injected some Yellow Pages in the City Library of Malmö. It has it’s obvious place in the sections ‘easy reading’, ‘environment’ & fiction. In the fiction section you’ll find it by author – G – as in Gula Sidorna. If you don’t find it, ask for Jan Guillou.

It’d be fun to see the reactions of those who find these Yellows. Maybe they’d like to borrow them. ‘Max time: 1 Year’

the [yellow collection] iPhone Case

Boyz & Girls.

The [yellow collection] iPhone Case is here. We proudly present this DIY iPhone case, a case built solely on reused Yellow Pages. The ingenious design let the user cover his or her iPhone with the favourite Bar / Restaurant / Coffee Shop – to always have the numbers & menus available. It uses minimal resources – just a single page of your dusty old Yellow Pages.

It’s completely customizable. Depending on your choice of page the iYellow Case will appear in many flavours, ranging in colors & patterns. The selected design only shows the potential of how iYellow Case can be customized. You can submit your own flavour to iphone@yellowcollection.com

There’s much waste out there, but some of it can actually be used – like the Yellow Pages. It’s good in many ways – apart from being a good door stopper we would like to, with this design, highlight its usage as a sustainable iPhone Case.

The design parameters set out was: sustainable; free; informative; retro; recyclable; slim; colorful, #ff0

timbuktu + damn [yellow collection]

Timbuktu + Damn, this is the best use I’ve ever had of  the Yellow Pages. I’m almost as short as Timbuktu himself, and he has to stand on the speaker to get seen. We didn’t have any spare speakers but 40 Yellow Pages. Some silver tape and we got the perfect stand. 40 cm above everybody else, I’ve never seen a concert as good as this one. Highly recommended to anyone short-legged like me.

Best part!! The police asked if I cold step down so they could see better. That’s what I call Good Use of Yellow Pages. Shortly we’ll present all projects made so far. We’ve got about 36 and counting…

Imagine this. there’s about 800 paper-planes in one single Yellow Pages.

Whatcha gonna do??

“The tower will withstand for another 7 years”

In an article today in the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan, Emma Rblom, Press Manager @ Eniro is arguing that it “isn’t in their interest to produce more catalogues than what is necessary” and that “if you need a doctor one night and need to turn on the computer, it’s a question if the catalogue isn’t better for the environment”.

The question then is, how it’s reasonable to produce more catalogues in Sweden in 2009 than inhabitants, when nearly 100% of the population between 16-24 and over 80% of the swedish population is using internet every day, or at least every week?

In an interesting research (PDF) made by Econ Pöyrys you can read that 75% (p.22) of the Swedish population is using the catalogues every year & that the purpose of the catalogue is to facilitate contact between people. It’d be interesting to know how many people actually used them to find useful information, or connected with another person.

In contrast to Emma, the forestry expert at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency Jonas Rudberg has the opinion that the “consumers shouldn’t be forced to receive the catalogues” which is very reasonable. He also think the question should be: How many Swedes want the catalogue sent to their homes?

It’s disturbing to know that so much resources are wasted, not just natural but also human, on things that just go into the rubbish bin. In a good case they get recycled. In a much better case, they get used in a more creative manner as shown this weekend.

This boy will probably laugh when his dad tells him when he grows up a little what it was he was reading. A catalogue, with contact information limited to your own city, updated once a year – in times when internet was  de-facto, information was flowing and exchanged all over the world and you could instantly find and contact another person on the other side of the globe with help of Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Google etc without a single piece of paper.
